Description: During the period of industrialization, people migrated from rural villages to large cities in search of work. In this work, The Old Village, a solitary figure walks through a deserted square. She is hunched are wears traditional 19th century attire.

Description: Watercolor with ink and gouache. The piece is titled, "French Inspiration" in pencil at the bottom. This work is from the October 2000 in Chartres. Its date was estimated based on similarity to other work from the period. More research is needed.

Self-portrait
Year: 1920
Description: Hermann-Paul turned fifty-six in 1920. He had seen the Germans halted at the gates of Paris. And stood in line for food while the country was torn asunder. When the stress of war subsided, Hermann-Paul was an old man. His hair was gray and he needed glasses to see the canvas. Life was normal in 1920 and peace would last for twenty years. But he would not survive a second war. Hermann-Paul died in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer two days before the capitulation.
